In April 2006

In April 2006, Venture Crew 1220 was formed for both young men and women ages 14 to 20.  Venture Crew 1220 is charter by the Tioga VFW Post #2149, in Wood Dale Illinois. The Venturing Program has four goals for the Crew members: To gain practical experience; To engage in a program with a variety of activities, to encourage the development of the whole person; To experience positive leadership from adult and youth leaders and be given opportunities to take on leadership roles; and to have a chance to learn and grow in a supportive, caring and fun environment.  Crew 1220 will be run by the Venturers with the guidance of the Advisors (adult leaders).

This Venture Crew focuses on high adventure activities.  Some of the types of camps the Venturers hope to attend this year are canoeing, target and trap shooting, scuba and skiing.  Next year the Crew hopes to take a high adventure scuba trip to the Boy Scout Sea Base in the Florida Keys.  In preparation for that trip the Crew members will sign up for and complete their scuba certification.

Each August, 2006 to 2009, Crew 1220 members paddled 25 miles over three days on the Wisconsin River.  August 2006, Crew members, along with Troop 409 scouts, also hiked a super strenuous trek of over 50 miles at Scouting's premiere high adventure base "Philmont Scout Ranch" in Cimarron New Mexico.  In 2007, the Crew went to Sea Base in the Florida Keys for a Coral Reef Sailing Adventure.  In 2009 -2010 a number of Crew members received their PADI scuba certification.

The kinds of adventures these young adults will and want to go on requires special gear.  Several organizations in the Itasca community have been very supportive and Crew 1220 would like to thank: Itasca Bank & Trust, Itasca/St. Peter's Knights of Columbus, Suburban Bank, Itasca Lions Club and Charter One for their generous contributions.

Crew 1220 is always ready to welcome new members.  If you or someone you know is a young adult, male or female, between the ages of 14 and 20, and you enjoy ACTIVITIES like: Camping, Scuba Diving, Skiing, Hiking, Archery, Fishing, Canoeing, Horseback Riding, Target and Trap Shooting, the Outdoors or just having FUN, then Venture Crew 1220 is FOR YOU!   This year the Crew will start regular Trap shooting at the Maywood Park Sportsman Club.  Come and live the ad-Venture.  Please e-mail Michelangelo VentureCrew1220@aol.com or phone him at 630-292-4427 for more information. Planning for 2010 and 2011 is not complete, schedule subject to change. The Crew meets the first Monday of every month (except holidays then it’s the second Monday) at the Itasca Park District in Itasca at 8:00 PM.
