WELCOME TO TROOP 409

WELCOME TO TROOP 409

In 1995, Troop 409 formed for young men ages 11 to 17. To date the Troop has had sixteen Scouts attain the rank of Eagle.

The Boy Scout program builds strong character by teaching the Scouts to live by the 12 principles of the Scout Law: A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. Troop 409 is a Scout lead Troop, the Scouts run the activities with the guidance of the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmasters (adult leaders).

The Troop camps on average 10 times a year. Some of the types of camp outs the Troop has done in the past are: Camp Tecumseh (Indiana), Grant Pilgrimage (Galena IL), Warren Dunes (Indiana), Devils Lake (Wisconsin), Rockhollow Conservation Club (Freeport IL) and of course summer camp. The Troop attends Camp Freeland Leslie every.

In August 2006, Troop 409 Scouts, hiked a super strenuous trek of over 50 miles at Scouting's premiere high adventure base "Philmont Scout Ranch" in Cimarron New Mexico. In July 2007, members of the Troop went to Seabase on a coral reef sailing adventure and spent many hours diving on the coral reefs in the Florida Keys. In 2008 some Scouts will be hiking the Grand Canyon. The Troop has also gone white water rafting and canoeing in West Virginia.

Troop 409 is always ready to welcome new members. If you or someone you know is a young male between the ages of 11 and 17, and you enjoy ACTIVITIES like: Camping, Skiing, Hiking, Fishing, Canoeing, Target and Trap Shooting, the Outdoors or just having FUN, then Troop 409 is FOR YOU!
